UPDATE: One person dead following hours-long shutdown on I-41 in Appleton

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Wisconsin State Patrol Northeast Region Fond du Lac Post has confirmed one person is dead following the hours-long shutdown on I-41 in Appleton.

According to an updated media release, on Friday, February 23, 2024, at around 8:00 a.m., the Wisconsin State Patrol, along with the Appleton Police Department, responded to a commercial motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Interstate 41 near Meade Street.

16-year-old dead after motorcycle gets hit by vehicle at Marinette intersection

Witnesses to the crash report the pedestrian exited a vehicle, which was traveling on Interstate 41, and ran into the path of oncoming commercial traffic. The pedestrian was hit and killed as a result of the crash.

The Wisconsin State Patrol’s technical reconstruction team is reconstructing the crash while the investigation is ongoing.

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – The Appleton Police Department has provided an update to the multi-hour-long shutdown of a section of I-41 at the 441 interchanges from earlier on Friday.

The Appleton Police Department posted on Facebook that the section of I-41 in Appleton that was shut down is now back open.

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – A crash has temporarily shut down part of I-41 southbound in Appleton at the 441 interchanges, authorities say.

According to the Appleton Police Department, I-41 southbound at the 441 interchanges until the Richmond Street exit will be temporarily shut down. Officers are saying that all traffic is being diverted to 441.

A release from WisDOT states that the incident happened around 8 a.m. on February 23 and should take over two hours to clear.
