Tire deflation device aids in Minnesota man’s arrest after fleeing Wisconsin authorities

GALE, Wis. (WFRV) – A 55-year-old Minnesota man was arrested after fleeing a traffic stop and running over a tire deflation device in Wisconsin on Tuesday morning.

According to the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle shortly after 1:15 a.m. on May 7. The driver allegedly sped near State Highway 53/93 and State Highway 54 in Treampealeau County.

The suspect, later identified as 55-year-old Scott Coxworth from Houston, Minnesota, failed to stop and began accelerating away from the deputy, traveling at speeds over 95 miles per hour.

The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Holmen Police Department, which placed a tire deflation device on the roadway. Coxworth ran over the device, causing the vehicle to slow down before exiting County Road OT in La Crosse County.

Coxworth continued to try to operate the vehicle on deflated tires but was unsuccessful. He eventually complied with law enforcement and was taken into custody without further incident.

The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident, but no additional details have been provided.
