Authorities identify victim and officer from deadly shooting in early March

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WFRV) – The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigations has released the name of the 52-year-old victim and the officer after an officer-involved critical incident back in early March.

According to authorities, the victim was identified as Andrew Zigler, and the officer was identified as Sergeant Jummy Holford III. Holford III has 16 years of law enforcement service and shot Zigler after a standoff.

The Janesville Police Department responded to a 911 call on March 1, and when they arrived, Zigler refused to leave the residence. Zigler was holding two other subjects inside the house and eventually died on the scene after Holford III discharged his weapon.

Holford III remains on administrative leave per department policy, and the Division of Criminal Investigations continues to review the evidence and determine the facts of this incident.

Once those are complete, officials will turn over the investigative reports to the Rock County District Attorney’s Office.
