GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The urgency for blood donations is still high, as many filled into the Johnsonville Tailgate Village on Monday to help play their part in saving a life.

The choice was easy to come and donate blood for many of those in attendance. Diane Eisenman of Suamico said she’s donated plenty of times, knowing that it’s both easy and crucial from firsthand experience.
“It takes six minutes to donate blood, it’s easy, it’s easy,” Diane Eisenman of Suamico said. “I’ve been donating for a long time. I used to be a registered nurse; the need for blood is just so important.”
The Red Cross set a goal of 301 units being donated, with those going to shelves in hospitals that will need it the most.
Donors were also able to take part in the Power Red program, which allowed them to give a “double dose” of blood that will be put on the shelves.
“It hurts that I can’t give more, but this allows me to give a double dose of my blood, so I do this version,” Mike Resch of Brillion said.
May is also Trauma Awareness Month, and the Red Cross says this blood drive comes at a time when they need blood.
“We see so much activity here in Wisconsin in the summer months, which brings us to the possibility of people needing blood,” Laura McGuire, the Red Cross of Wisconsin Regional Communications Manager, said. “So it’s really perfect timing.”
So whether you are a first-time donor, or make the effort to give often, the Red Cross wants to assure donors that blood donation is quick, easy, and knowing that you are saving a life with each donation.

“We put it to good use, because when you walk out the door, you know that you’re helping to save lives,” McGuire said.
