GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Spring has sprung, and so have the buds in the garden. If you have not yet started a garden or taken the time to learn what gardening entails, Bountiful Branches with New Leaf Foods has options.
Sustainably Speaking: The Benefits of Native Plants
Bountiful Branches has a variety of new opportunities to educate gardeners of all skill levels, including their fifth annual Bountiful Branches plant sale, which started on February 1st, 2026. The sale includes edible perennial plants at a low price to make growing them more affordable.
Their goal is to empower the people of the greater Green Bay area to grow food in their own gardens and yards, building a more sustainable system that combats local food insecurity.
“Planting fruit and nut trees or perennial edible plants in yards and neighborhoods empowers a self-sufficient community that grows local healthy food,” New Leaf Foods Vice President Kim Diaz said. “We are cultivating hope and food sovereignty with urban orchard neighborhoods.”
This year, they added several new plant species and plenty of returning, all of which are listed below:
- Newcomers:
- Washington hawthorn
- Staghorn sumac
- Thimble berries
- Returners:
- American Hazelnut
- Nanking Cherry
- American Plum
- Black Elderberry
- Nanny Berry
The date for the plant pickup is set for May 9, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. behind the NWTC agricultural building in the Green Bay Botanical Gardens parking lot.
