(WFRV) – A college in northeast Wisconsin announced that one of its sports programs will discontinue both men’s and women’s teams amidst a strategic realignment.
Marian University announced that it plans to discontinue both men’s and women’s lacrosse program. The university cited a ‘strategic realignment of its athletic offerings’.

The release said leadership found challenges that impacted the sustainability of the lacrosse programs. Some of those challenges included, recruiting limitations, roster depth concerns, and increasing operational demands.
Marian University Athletic Director Tony Draves said decisions like this are never easy.
Decisions like this are never easy. However, this strategic shift allows us to invest more deeply in programs where we see strong participation, competitive growth, and alignment with our institutional strengths. Our goal is to create the best possible experience for all Marian student-athletes.
It was mentioned that the university will redirect resources currently supporting lacrosse toward strengthening other existing programs.
The transition is effective immediately.
