GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Joining Local 5 in the studio for Thursday’s Community Update were Green Bay Police Department Officer Mallory Meves and Captain Tom Denney of the Community Services Division to talk about animal and pet safety with the warmer weather.
The first topic discussed was about the Animal Control Protection Unit and how circumstances are handled with the approaching Spring weather.
“The Green Bay Police Department has a responsibility to monitor the welfare of domestic animals and to ensure the welfare of the public from issues with domestic animals,” stated Captain Denney.
“In Green Bay, you can have two dogs and three cats,” began Officer Meves. “If more are wanted, a variance can be obtained at Green Bay City Hall, and licenses must be obtained annually.”
The two then discussed how pet owners can be in compliance with the varying ordinances within the city.
“Maintaining control of your animal is vital in ensuring your animal’s safety as well as the public’s,” added Officer Meves.
Captain Denney was then asked about wildlife animals.
“GBPD does not respond to wildlife-related calls unless the animal is posing a hazard to the public,” Captain Denney stated.
