APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Starting April 1st, crews will begin a $7.4 million project to resurface a nearly 2-mile stretch of West Wisconsin Avenue, between Casaloma Drive and North Badger Avenue in Grand Chute.

The work includes resurfacing the pavement, patching concrete when needed, adding sidewalks and improving turn lanes. Drivers who commute on Wisconsin Ave. often say it’s something they’ve needed.
“I mean, it needs to be done; the winters are hard on our roads,” Tyler Sickels of Appleton said. “It’s really bumpy and needs to be reworked.”
The Department of Transportation said most of the work improvements will happen overnight, when there is less traffic.
“Those lane closures will start at 6 pm and run to 11 am the next day, and are expected to be done nightly,” Project Leader Jesse Hansen, Wisconsin Department of Transportation – Northeast Region, said.
The project requires adding sidewalks to areas along the corridor; however, Hansen said businesses should not be impacted.
“As for businesses, there’s a sidewalk that needs to be added that will be either done in halves or in parts,” Hansen said.
Sickels expects traffic to be hectic during this project due to the many businesses in the area.
“It gets a lot of traffic over there, being in front of the mall, so I think it’s to be expected,” Sickels said.

Officials say resurfacing will make the road safer for years to come, while also urging drivers to stay alert for workers during this time.
The project is expected to be completed in early November.
