MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) — A story that writes itself, a championship returns to Reedsville, defined by one family’s legacy more than 80 years in the making.
Led by Head Coach Ron Prochnow and his two sons, Ben (senior) and Zach (sophomore), Reedsville boys basketball captured its first state championship since 1946. And, even better, the last time the Panthers took home gold, Ben and Zach’s great-grandfather was on the team.
“I looked up at the big screen and saw ‘Reedsville 2026 state champions,’” Ron Prochnow said. “They’re state champions forever, and nobody can take that away from them.”
Ron said the message before Saturday’s game was the same; it’s been all year long, his two rules: work hard and have fun (the five words taped above the door to their practice facility).
“The approach was just be who we are, and keep doing what we’ve done every game,” Ron said.
Ron’s son, Ben, said playing for his dad this year was something super special to him.
“It’s something I’ll never take for granted,” Ben Prochnow said.
A journey that began in December ends in March with the Panthers bringing a gold ball back to Reedsville.
