President Trump declared that the U.S. has beaten Iran “both militarily, economically, and in every other way” in a Truth Social post on Saturday, and called on countries that receive oil through the Strait of Hormuz to “take care” of the closed passage.
“The Countries of the World that receive Oil through the Hormuz Strait must take care of that passage, and we will help — A LOT!” Trump wrote on the platform.
“The U.S. will also coordinate with those Countries so that everything goes quickly, smoothly, and well. This should have always been a team effort, and now it will be — It will bring the World together toward Harmony, Security, and Everlasting Peace!” he continued.
The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment on the post.
Trump’s comments saying the U.S. has “beaten” Iran come after he said on Friday that Iran is “totally defeated” and “wants a deal in a separate TruthSocial post.
The president told reporters on Friday he has his “own idea” of how long the U.S. operation in the Middle Eastern country would ultimately last.
“I mean, I have my own idea. But what good does it do?” Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews when asked about the duration of the war. “It’ll be as long as it’s necessary.”
On Friday, Trump launched what he referred to as “one of the most powerful bombing raids in the History of the Middle East, and totally obliterated every MILITARY target in Iran’s crown jewel, Kharg Island.”
The bombardment took place after Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, said last week that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed as long as the conflict continues, triggering further fears of economic upheaval.
On Saturday, Trump announced that numerous countries will send ships to the Strait of Hormuz amid its closure.
“Many Countries, especially those who are affected by Iran’s attempted closure of the Hormuz Strait, will be sending War Ships, in conjunction with the United States of America, to keep the Strait open and safe,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “We have already destroyed 100% of Iran’s Military capability, but it’s easy for them to send a drone or two, drop a mine, or deliver a close range missile somewhere along, or in, this Waterway, no matter how badly defeated they are.”
