LITTLE CHUTE, Wis. (WFRV)- The Outagamie Highway Department is preparing for a long weekend ahead.
Cancellations & delays roll out across northeast Wisconsin as winter storm arrives
Patrol superintendent for Outagamie County Highway Department, Adam Duchow, told Local 5 that crews will be working day and night this weekend to clear roadways in the county.
“We’ll have crews on our highways the entire 24-hour shift from Saturday night to Monday night,” Duchow said.
The rest of the county and state crews will join early Sunday morning, working through the day before returning Monday to continue cleanup efforts.
Duchow said the county has 50 pieces of equipment driving 45 routes, with drivers working around the clock.
“Our highways we keep bare as much as possible, with the rate of snow that’s coming, that might be a challenge,” Duchow said.
The last spring storm with similar forecast totals occurred in April 2018. And Duchnow said that their crews are preparing for those same efforts this weekend.
“With these totals forecasted, and this one looks similar,” Duchow said. “It’s going to be very windy, blizzard conditions, you won’t be able to see anything.”
Duchow wants drivers to be prepared for tow bans that may go into effect county-wide, urging drivers to stay home as much as possible.
Cities across northeast Wisconsin declare snow emergency
‘We encourage people not to travel if it’s not necessary, it’s going to be difficult for our plow drivers to keep the roads in safe condition,” Duchow said.
