(WFRV) – With less than ideal weather conditions continuing for sturgeon spearers in northeast Wisconsin, Friday saw the lowest harvest of the season, with only 19.

Lucas Muche was one of only two lucky spearers to harvest a fish over 100 pounds today with this 71-inch, 104.4-pound, F1 female. (Wisconsin DNR)
Spearers contended with wet and windy conditions on February 20, and the harvest total reflected the weather. Friday saw 4 juvenile females, 6 adult females, and 9 males harvested.
The 100-pounders also continue to be elusive, with only two harvested Friday: a 71-inch, 104.4-pound, F1 female speared by Lucas Muche, which just narrowly beat out Al Schumacher’s 104.2-pound female.
Significant route change announced for 75th Appleton Flag Day Parade
After Friday’s harvest, there have now been 1,435 lake sturgeon harvested across the entire Winnebago System.
With Friday’s low harvest, spearers will likely be able to spear for most of the upcoming weekend.

To all the spearers planning to head out this weekend, be safe and good luck.
