BELOIT, Wis. (WFRV) – A Wisconsin man is now behind bars for child neglect and possession of a firearm as a felon following an incident where he shot himself in the leg on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a release from the Beloit Police Department, officers responded at 4:04 p.m. to a home on the 1900 block of House Street for reports of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police took the caller, Carlos A. Lavariega, to the hospital for treatment of his injured leg. Further investigation into the incident saw Lavariega be taken into custody for being a felon in possession of a firearm, as well as for three counts of child neglect and a probation violation.

Another individual, Chelsey M. Sheltrown was also arrested following the incident. Sheltrown was said to be arrested for three counts of child neglect and for the straw purchase of a firearm.
Police believe this to be an isolated incident, and there is no evidence suggesting any danger or threat to the public.
