(WFRV) – With Wisconsin now seeing two measles cases pop up within the last few weeks, bringing the state’s total to three, health officials are sharing tips on how to avoid an infection with Spring break right around the corner.
The state of Wisconsin has one measles case in Waukesha County and two in Dane County, one of which is a UW-Madison student, and although cases are worse in neighboring states and were significantly higher last year in Oconto County, cases can spread fast.

“Some of these outbreaks, especially in Wisconsin, right now have come from international travel,” began Dr. Cynthia Fisher, ThedaCare Family Medicine Physician. “So, if you have a child, for example, immunization usually starts at 12 months, but if you have a child as old as six months that is going to be travelling internationally, then this would be a good time to talk to your physician about possibly immunizing earlier.”
Fisher added that it is good to keep an eye out for symptoms, which include fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. Symptoms can begin around one week after exposure.
