According to a release, the initiative is led by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and it’s specifically for homelessness in places not meant for habitation.
The PIT Count is designed to provide a single-night snapshot of homelessness in communities nationwide, helping people understand just how significant the issue can be, and data goes back to help secure funding and inform support services to prevent homelessness.s
Winnebago County Public Health Officials had 13 groups out overnight from Kimberly to the Neenah-Menasha area, with about 24 people contacted in vehicles or other places.
However, it’s more than just counting individuals and families; the annual initiative invites volunteers to help, with training provided to ensure safety and proper discussions.
