MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – Officers in southern Wisconsin are actively searching for an ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect who allegedly carjacked a vehicle outside a Madison hospital before crashing it into Brittingham Bay.

A release from the Madison Police Department sent out on Thursday morning states that officers are looking for 55-year-old Derrick M. Newton. Newton is the suspect in an armed carjacking that happened outside a hospital shortly before 6 a.m. on January 22.

Around 6:10 a.m., officers were called to the 200 block of South Park Street for reports of a carjacking.
Shortly after, Newton reportedly crashed the vehicle into Brittingham Bay, creating a large police presence in the area.
Newton has not been found, and officers believe him to be ‘armed and dangerous,’ saying he possibly has a knife and a gun.

Officers also noted that Newton knew the carjacking victim.
The City of Madison Fire Department had additional details on the recovery of the vehicle from Brittingham Bay.
