GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – FedEx trucks are once again rolling out for the national Trees for Troops program, delivering 16,000 Christmas trees to military bases across the country to help service members celebrate the holidays.
About 800 of those trees were grown in Wisconsin, and crews spent Wednesday loading 300 of them for shipment. This year’s Wisconsin donations are headed to Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to the military,” said Paul Schroeder, former owner of North Countree Christmas Inc. “We just turn our back on them, we don’t see what they’re doing, and they made this country what it is today and they protect us all the time. We’re not able to do that, but the least we can do is give them a little holiday spirit.”
Over the past 21 years, the Trees for Troops program has delivered more than 300,000 Christmas trees to service members and their families.
