GREEN LAKE, Wis. (WFRV) – Bill Toman, a 69-year-old Green Lake resident, set out early this morning to attempt a world record: rowing all the way around Green Lake in one continuous trip.

The event, which Toman calls “Circle the Lake Day,” could total more than 26 miles—roughly the distance of a marathon.
He’s rowing in a customized duck boat outfitted for long-distance rowing by Windward Boatworks and modified by local outdoorsman Dave Norton.
Toman has rowed on Green Lake nearly every day for five years, in every month of the year. Today’s challenge, he says, is about personal endurance and giving back to the community.
He’s dedicating the attempt to the Green Lake Conservancy, which celebrates its 30th anniversary on August 2.
