FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in Fond du Lac are investigating after a dumpster fire damaged a historic downtown building Monday evening.
According to Fond du Lac Fire Rescue, crews were dispatched shortly after 6 p.m. to an alley near 18 Forest Avenue for a reported dumpster fire. While en route, firefighters were notified that the flames were spreading to a nearby structure.

Upon arrival, crews found several dumpsters fully involved, with fire and smoke impinging on an adjacent building.
Firefighters first applied water to the exterior of the building to stop the fire’s progression before extinguishing the dumpsters. Additional crews searched the interior of the structure for occupants and potential fire extension. Officials said no one was found inside, and the exterior flames did not spread into the building.

The damaged structure is a three-story brick building constructed in 1890 and formerly known as the P.B. Haber Printing House. It is currently used as a mixed-occupancy property with both business and residential spaces.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
