OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) has provided an update on the officer-involved shooting that happened at a Fleet Farm on Sunday, now saying the victim has died.
According to the Wisconsin DOJ Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), which is conducting the investigation into the May 10 shooting, the victim was pronounced dead at a hospital following the incident.
The DOJ states that an officer with the Oshkosh PD was called to the Fleet farm for reports of ‘theft of a firearm’ at 8:18 a.m.
After making contact with the man in the parking lot, who then allegedly refused officer commands and kept walking towards the officer, the man allegedly “retrieved from their waistline a firearm.” That is when the Oshkosh Police Department officer fired at the man.
The involved law enforcement officer was wearing a body-worn camera during the incident, and will be placed on administrative leave, per the agency’s policy.
