Deputies noted that multiple callers reported seeing a man pulling a woman from a vehicle before shooting her multiple times and fleeing the scene in a vehicle on County Road W.
At 2:12 p.m., deputies arrived at the scene and found the woman dead from “multiple close-range gunshot wounds” in the parking lot of the nature preserve.
During the initial investigation, a general vehicle and suspect description was obtained and aired to responding units.
Roughly an hour later, a man drove into the parking lot of the Sauk Prairie Police Department, got out of the vehicle, and allegedly fired several gunshots into the front door and vestibule of the building. No one was injured during the shooting.
Officers were then able to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle as it left the police department, taking the suspect into custody without further incident.
After a brief investigation, it was determined that it was the same suspect in both shooting incidents. The man was brought to the Sauk County Jail.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
