GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – As the warmer weather starts making its way into the area, Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis stopped by the Local Five studio to discuss motorcycle and E-bike safety.
As the weather gets better, Chief Davis says the department starts to see and hear about more and more incidents of reckless driving from those on motorcycles and E-bikes throughout the city.

He adds that, as far as motorcycles go, police have already started to see some of the reckless driving behavior, especially on Green Bay’s east side on Huron Road, Humboldt Drive, both East and West Mason Street, and some parts of the downtown area.
Chief Davis says that they have had some cases of serious injuries following motorcycle crashes related to reckless driving.
As for E-bikes and electric Scooters, the Chief notes that they come with their own safety challenges, and it is important that the people using these modes of transportation understand what the regulations for these vehicle types are and stay within the rules.
Some of the rules and regulations making E-bikes legal for use are as follows:
E-bikes
- Must be equipped with pedals
- Has an electric motor with 750 watts or less
- Max speed of 28mph for those over 16 years old
- Max speed of 20 for those under 16 years old
Electric scooters
- The scooter itself must weigh less than 100 pounds
- Must be equipped with handlebars and a floorboard
- Electric motor capped at 20mph
- The operator must be at least 8 years old to use without adult supervision
For both E-bikes and electric scooters, Chief Davis says it is a good idea to wear a helmet, be mindful of pedestrians, do not ride double, do not interfere with traffic, and most importantly, do not drink and drive.
Chief Davis also quickly touched on the recent uptick in property theft and theft from vehicles:
I know I say this like a broken record, but don’t leave valuables in your car. Whatever you do, don’t leave firearms in your car. Roll your windows up and lock the doors, even if you’re just running in for a minute, because there are people who are out looking for that opportunity and don’t provide it for them.
