(WFRV) – Freedom High School junior Donovan Davis, the No. 2 ranked player in Wisconsin and the nation’s No. 7 power forward in the Class of 2027, announced Wednesday evening that he has committed to Iowa State to continue his basketball career.
Davis chose the Cyclones over fellow finalists that includes the Wisconsin Badgers, Marquette Golden Eagles, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Nebraska Cornhuskers.
“I’m pretty excited. I’m pumped. To have an opportunity to play college basketball has always been a dream of mine. To play for a really good team like Iowa State? It’s a dream come true,” Davis told Local 5 Sports.
“Our Athletic Director alluded to it, but Davis is the first division one guy since 1990 for Freedom. It’s a special day for a special kid and just a joy to be a part of”, Freedom boys basketball head coach Andrew Gibbons said.
Through his junior season at Freedom High School, Davis has already rewritten the program record book, atop in points (1,761), rebounds (946), steals (221) and assists (376), while ranking second all-time in blocked shots with 69.
At Iowa State, Davis joins a growing Fox Valley pipeline that includes former Oshkosh North star Tyrese Haliburton, who played for the Cyclones from 2018-20, and fellow Cyclone Xzavion Mitchell, who is entering his sophomore season at the university. Davis told the media that he has a great relationship with Mitchell and he had a chance to talk with Haliburton on a visit.
