MALONE, Wis. (WFRV) – After a week of busy and crazy weather forecasting, Storm Team 5 wasn’t done educating the community, as meteorologist Nathan Himpsl took a trip to Holyland Catholic School on Thursday morning.

In addition, Nathan brought out the Storm Team 5 Storm Tracker to showcase how he and his fellow meteorologists here at WFRV prepare to safely storm-chase, including safety procedures.
Nathan said it was extra fun because of how the students got involved.
“It’s always great to get out of the office and spend time with the community,” Nathan said. “It’s even better when that community engagement gets kids interested in the world of weather.”
But the best part wasn’t just their involvement; it was their interest in learning.
“The best part of visits like this is that they get to ask questions,” Nathan said. “Sometimes it opens a door for me to learn more from an outside perspective.”

Nathan also provided insight as to how kids can become immersed in the weather world, from watching a daily forecast to checking out some National Weather Service sites and even keeping a journal.
“It’s important for people to understand that weather forecasting expands far beyond what you see on television,” Nathan said. “There’s a certain point where you can see kids start to think hard on how these weather events actually work.”
