JANESVILLE, Wis. (WFRV) – A school in southern Wisconsin announced that it will be closed for the foreseeable future due to water damage.
The School District of Janesville posted on its Facebook page that after a weekend of intensive damage assessment and cleanup, the Washington Elementary school will stay closed. The closure due to water damage is expected to be for the ‘foreseeable future’.
The release says the district is looking at other spaces to accommodate around 400 students.
The damage was described as ‘extensive’ and affecting multiple levels of the building.
Classes for all Washington Elementary students have been canceled for the rest of the week. Superintendent Mark Holzman thanked the public and staff for the rapid response.
We are thankful to our custodial staff who have been in all of our buildings all weekend, ensuring schools were ready for learning today. And for all the community’s support, reaching out to help, whether with childcare or in other ways. This community really shows up to support our schools.
The post included multiple images and a video that showcased how bad the damage is.

Parts of Wisconsin experienced heavy amounts of rainfall from the past week. The release did say ServPro has a large team working on the cleanup effort at the school.
