At what was first assumed to be a routine wheelchair unloading, a further investigation found an occupant of the vehicle in visible distress, requiring immediate assistance. It was determined that one person in the van was transporting a paralyzed patient to a medical facility when the patient had fallen out of the wheelchair and was unable to get back in.
As the attendant was working alone, the officer immediately helped lift the patient back into the wheelchair before helping take the patient into the facility, and not leaving until the patient was properly checked in and receiving the needed care.
Officials say the actions of the officer showed the high standard of professionalism and compassion that is expected as a part of the Appleton Police Department
