Video sent to Local 5 News by Harley Huebner captured the arrest which took place near the corner of Jackson Street and Irving Avenue.
A Local 5 News reporter on scene also saw several police vehicles and a Winnebago County Emergency Management truck near a childcare center on campus.
Several law enforcement agencies assisted in locating and arresting the suspect. Police also deployed drones and K-9 units. From the time the gunshots rang out until police arrested the suspect, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh police sent out an alert telling students and others in the area to stay inside.
Saturday was a bar crawl night (not sanctioned by the university), and there were lots of people out and about at the time of the shooting. Local Five News spoke to several people who were in the area when the gunshots rang out.

“We were in the house and we came outside like 20 seconds later after the shooting happened and I saw that somebody got shot,” a person named SJ told Local 5 News. “When people hear gunshots everybody runs, so everybody is running. I’m used to it because I’m from Chicago. We’re still walking and wondering what happened. Even though we heard the gunshots we didn’t know (if it was actually gunshots), it could have been anything. As we walked up we just saw everyone scattering everywhere.”
“We were getting a lot of Titan alerts,” said a UWO student named Jett. “I was shocked because they were clearing people from the scene, telling people to stay inside kind of like in lockdown. We saw the cop cars going wild, it was kind of nuts.”
Another student told Local 5 News that officers came near the home she was staying at with long guns to look for the suspect. She said the whole thing was very scary and she hopes that the person injured in the shooting is able to recover.
Police say that the investigation is ongoing and that charges are pending.
