The Oneida Nation is thanking Gov. Tony Evers after he signed Act 247, allowing for expanded sports gambling in Wisconsin through tribal agreements.
“We feel like signing this bill is an expression of a strong and productive government-to-government relationship with the state of Wisconsin,” Oneida Tribal Secretary Lisa Liggins said.

Under the current system, online sports betting is limited within reservation boundaries.
This new legislation opens the door for expanded access to online sports gambling.
“This would expand that geofencing and, most importantly, allow for expansion of regulated and legal gaming,” Liggins said.
All 11 tribes in Wisconsin support the legislation, according to tribal leaders.
Now that the bill is in effect, the focus is shifting to negotiations between tribes and the state.
“Moving forward we are looking forward to those next steps in contract negotiations with the governor’s office,” Liggins said.
While there is currently no timeline for when expanded online gambling could become available statewide, officials said the goal is to keep revenue in Wisconsin.

“At the end of the day, the goal is to keep those revenues in the state of Wisconsin and expand economic growth not only for the tribes but for the whole state,” Liggins said.
Liggins said negotiations are ongoing, and it is currently unclear when this online sports gambling will be available to the public.
