GREEN BAY, Wis. – A one-year-old husky is recovering in Green Bay after surviving a fall from an I-41 overpass near Shawano Avenue, and injuries that veterinarians say make her survival remarkable.

Stella is now in the care of the Wisconsin Humane Society after she was found with serious internal injuries following the fall.
According to the organization, she was initially taken to a local emergency veterinary clinic, where staff discovered air in her chest cavity and damage to her lungs.
Veterinarians also found metal fragments in her chest, believed to be from a pellet gun.

Despite falling roughly 30 feet, Stella did not suffer any broken bones, something officials say is highly unusual given the circumstances.
“She was stable enough that we could transfer her to the Wisconsin Humane Society Green Bay campus, where she is now. She’s still recovering and she’s doing amazing,” Media Specialist Corey Viars said.
Stella underwent extensive treatment, including CT scans, X-rays and open-chest surgery to remove damaged lung tissue and the metal fragments. The Humane Society says it stepped in to cover the cost of her care.
Staff members said Stella had gotten loose before the incident, something not uncommon for huskies, which are known for their ability to escape enclosures. Her previous owners had already been in the process of finding her a new home.

Now, Stella is continuing to recover at the Green Bay campus, where staff say her personality is already shining through. They say she remains affectionate and is progressing well, with multiple potential adopters already expressing interest.
The Wisconsin Humane Society says Stella’s treatment has been extensive and costly. For those interested in helping with her medical expenses, donations can be made online by clicking here.
