According to the Fox Crossing Police Department, Officer Dominick Texiera was justified in his actions to shoot the dog, a rottweiler that was deemed vicious after an incident in August 2025.
The shooting occurred on March 7, 2026, when Officer Texiera responded to the park for a loose dog complaint, which led him to find the rottweiler with a history of prior calls actively attacking another dog and its owner.
The rottweiler in question, owned by a woman identified as Amy Schoch, has had multiple incidents with the Fox Crossing Police Department, according to the release:
- 05/20/2025 – Warning for Animal at Large
- 07/24/2025 – Municipal Citation for Dog At Large
- 08/02/2025 – Municipal Citation for Dog at Large
- 08/25/2025 – Municipal Citation for Vicious Dog and Failure to License
- 03/07/2026 – Fritsch Park Dog Attack Incident
The dog and the owner from the incident in August 2025 were hospitalized for injuries at the time, and Schoch was told that her dog must be euthanized or surrendered to officials, which was not done.

The release provided the following statement:
“The Fox Crossing Police Department has concluded its investigation of the incident and determined the discharge of Officer Texiera’s firearm was justified and in compliance with both Wisconsin State Statute and department policy in this situation. The officer’s actions, although perceptually drastic to some, were taken to prevent serious injury to the person it appeared to be attacking as well as continued attacks on the other dog involved. Other force options, if considered, could have potentially intensified and significantly worsened the outcome of the attack. Situations involving animals are always difficult, and the Fox Crossing Police Department recognizes that incidents resulting in harm to an animal, and in this case an unfortunately fatal discharge of a firearm, can be upsetting to members of the community.”
