NEENAH, Wis. (WFRV) – ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah marked a big milestone Friday morning as leadership from the Graduate Medical Education Program coordinated a Match Day to welcome its inaugural resident physician group.

Match Day is celebrated on the third Friday of March nationwide. The day celebrates future doctors, as soon-to-be graduate medical students and practicing physicians learn where they’ll complete residency training.
About 2,000 applicants reached out to ThedaCare for residency, completing interviews with multiple people, and 15 were selected by the many professionals involved in the process.
“We interviewed over 150 candidates, whom we selected out of 2,000 applicants,” Program Director Paul Bergl said. “It’s all a computer algorithm that sorts people by where they wanted to be, and we got a lot of candidates we wanted as well.”
Each of the 15 chosen applicants got a special call from ThedaCare staff on Friday morning, with the news that they were selected to train as part of the first class of ThedaCare-Neenah’s resident program.

“This organization has put forth so much effort to build this program,” Program Director Paul Bergl said. “They were all smiles and filled with joy after getting the phone call and meeting with us on Zoom.”
Each of the class members is set to join ThedaCare’s team in June, following graduation.
