On March 10, Shawano County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home in Green Valley in the 2300 block of State Highway 22 for a reported disturbance around 1:41 a.m.
Officials say that Lupe was locked inside a bathroom and refused to exit, also reportedly telling deputies that he had a gun. Less lethal force was used, but was reportedly ineffective.
The suspect allegedly continued on towards officers with what deputies believed to be a gun, prompting Vande Hei to shoot Lupe, who was pronounced dead at an area hospital following life-saving efforts.
