BARABOO, Wis. (WFRV) – Numerous animals inside a south-central Wisconsin barn were lost in the wake of a heavy fire that took thousands of gallons of water to suppress on Tuesday night.
According to the Baraboo Area Fire and EMS District, the fire was reported at a barn with animals inside around 10:44 p.m. on Tuesday.
Green Bay Metro Fire Department gives update after day three of building fire
The first arriving units immediately reported heavy fire at a barn 300 feet from the road, with firefighters attempting to break into the barn and rescue animals inside; however, it was impossible due to the fire’s rapid progression.
As a result, officials said multiple animals died during the fire, which continued for several hours due to the large amount of straw bales inside. Despite thousands of gallons of water, some straw remained in flames, and officials dismantled the barn to prevent a rekindled fire from spreading.
Officials say the cause is unknown.
