(WFRV) – As the snowfall has come to an end, blowing snow is now creating heavy drifting and whiteout conditions throughout Fond du Lac County, leading to crashes along I-41.
According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, two semi-trucks have crashed on I-41 at County Highway N, with another semi-truck jackknifed at I-41 and Lincoln Road.

I-41 is said to be closed at County Highway N, with all traffic being detoured and deputies awaiting wrecker crews to help remove semis. Deputies are also out assisting at several other crashes and calls for service throughout the county.
Officials say highway crews are doing their best to keep up with clearing the highways, but until the winds decrease, heavy drifting is to be expected, with some roads remaining impassable and others showing slick conditions due to packed snow.

As of 1:00 p.m., three sheriff’s office squad cars have now been stuck during the course of the prolonged storm, with each one getting stuck while attempting to assist in various crashes.
Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt is encouraging everyone to stay home if they are able to do so.
If possible, avoid travel for the remainder of the day to allow crews to clear roads and highways. If you must go out, give yourself plenty of time and travel slowly as road conditions change quickly in this weather. Stay safe everyone.
