GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – More than 700 students from elementary through high school WILL put their robotics skills to the test this weekend at the Wisconsin VEX Robotics State Championships in Green Bay.

The three-day competition at the Resch Expo Center featured more than 120 teams from across the state. Each team brought robots they designed, built and programmed themselves.
Students will compete in challenges that test engineering, coding, strategy and teamwork.
Elementary and middle school teams faced the VEX IQ challenge called “Mix & Match,” while middle and high school teams competed in a challenge known as “High Stakes.”
Organizers say the event is designed to be student-driven, with kids responsible for designing and operating the robots during competition.
Top-performing teams at the state championship can qualify for the VEX Robotics World Championship, scheduled to take place in St. Louis next month.

“What these kids are learning are things businesses are just screaming for: teamwork, communication, problem solving and dealing with failure,” organizer Ron Lohse said. “Now is a better time to learn to deal with failure than when they’re out of college.”
Organizers say the competition aims to inspire the next generation of engineers and problem-solvers. Competition will wrap up on Sunday around 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
