According to a Texas Department of Public Safety release (DPS), the pursuit started around 10:30 a.m. onWednesday when troopers were called in to assist a high-speed chase involving a vehicle that fled a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint.
Officials identified the suspect driver as 33-year-old James McMillan of Greenfield, who reportedly fled the checkpoint after a Border Patrol K-9 alerted agents to McMillan’s vehicle, prompting him to flee.
McMillan allegedly began shooting out the window at DPS troopers and other law enforcement, including Border Patrol agents and indiscriminately at uninvolved vehicles.

Officials reportedly shot back, and a PIT maneuver successfully stopped the suspect vehicle. McMillan allegedly blocked himself into the car, which was reportedly stolen out of Arizona, and pointed his gun at responding authorities, who fired at him.
McMillan was killed as a result, and no civilians or law enforcement officials were injured. The FBI is investigating along with the Texas Rangers.
