SUPERIOR, Wis. (WFRV) – An electric utility company has announced the permanent closure of one of its northern Wisconsin facilities, causing 54 employees to be laid off.
According to a letter sent to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, Midwest Energy Resources Co. will be permanently closing its facility in Superior. The facility is located at 2400 Winter Street.
Officials say that all 54 employees have been notified and that their separation will be permanent. On June 30, 51 employees will be laid off, with the three remaining employees being terminated within 14 days of July 31.

Some of the affected employees are represented by the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) Local 1000, the letter noted.
