(WJW) – A recall of potentially harmful cat food has been expanded to include two additional lots of products, affecting Wisconsin and 19 other states, according to a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announcement Friday.
Go Raw LLC initially ordered a voluntary recall Feb. 17 for one lot of Quest Cat Food Chicken Recipe Freeze Dried Nuggets that may contain low levels of thiamine (Vitamin B1).

The recall now includes two lots of select Quest Cat Food Chicken Recipe frozen products that may also contain low levels of thiamine.

As a result of the recalls, the FDA said the company has decided to stop the sale of all Quest products at all retailers until the issue is addressed.

“We take the safety and well-being of pets extremely seriously,” said Shantel Goodrich, LVT, VP of Operations in a media release. “Rather than risk any potential concern, we made the decision to remove the affected product from the market and replace it with products we are confident meet our nutritional standards.”
Symptoms to watch for:
According to the FDA, symptoms of Vitamin B1 deficiency can include gastrointestinal or neurological signs. Early signs of thiamine deficiency may include decreased appetite, salivation, vomiting, failure to grow, and weight loss.
In advanced cases, neurological signs may develop, including ventroflexion (bending towards the floor) of the neck, mental dullness, vision changes, wobbly walking, circling, falling, and seizures.

The expanded recalled products were distributed through retail stores in the following states: Colorado, Utah, Washington, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Michigan, California, Texas, Illinois, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Wisconsin, Idaho and Montana.
Consumers who purchased the affected product are advised to stop feeding it to their pet and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or a replacement product. Click here for more details.
