PLOVER, Wis. (WFRV) – On Thursday afternoon, Vice President JD Vance made a quick trip to Wisconsin for a campaign-style energy event to discuss President Donald Trump’s 2026 State of the Union address.

Vice President Vance focused on the upcoming midterm elections as well as affordability, a key part of President Trump’s 107-minute State of the Union on February 24.
“Thanks to Donald Trump and the congressional Republicans, we have inflation at 2.4%, the lowest in 5 years, and it’s coming even lower, ladies and gentlemen,” Vance said.
The speech was in Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District, alongside Congressman Derrick Van Orden (R-Wisconsin), who is up for re-election in those midterms, citing it as a key district for Republicans in 2026.
“Are we going to send Derrick Van Orden back to Washington, yes,” Vance said.
The Vice President also discussed data centers. Local 5’s Ellie Davis asked Vance about how a data center can be a good community partner, especially with the ongoing debate over their presence.
Vice President Vance responded that while they’re part of the technical revolution, he wants data centers to generate power on their own.
“With the local government, with the state government and in the federal government, we are doing everything we can to make sure if they build a data center, they can build a power plant next door,” Vance said.

Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) responded to Vance’s visit with the following:
“While you are here, I hope you will listen to the people that feel like they’ve been left behind by your administration,” Baldwin said. “They deserve more than applause lines at the State of the Union; they deserve real results.”
Vance wrapped up by urging Wisconsinites to vote in the midterms this November.
