(WFRV) – In what was supposed to be a family event at the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office, quickly became an all-hands-on-deck situation on Tuesday as severe weather led to a bombardment of calls for service.
According to a release from the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office, an open house and soup cook-off was being held Tuesday afternoon/evening for the families of the Sheriff’s Office’s 911 dispatchers.
Officials say it was supposed to be an event geared towards showing the dispatchers’ families what goes on behind the headset and thanking them for the sacrifices they make as they support the dispatchers in their work; however, “Mother nature had different plans.”

An evening of tours, family time, and test-tasting quickly turned into an all-hands-on-deck situation, much like in Winnebago County, as the Communication Center was said to have gotten overloaded with calls.
Between 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., a reported 227 calls came into the Communications Center, with 156 of those being calls for service, including 84 crashes and traffic incidents.
What was meant to be an evening of tours, family time, and taste-testing quickly turned into an all-hands-on-deck response to severe weather and dangerous road conditions.

Officials say the dispatchers who came to the event with their families did not hesitate to immediately step in to start answering calls as their spouses and other loved ones proudly stood behind them.
We are incredibly proud of our team’s professionalism, adaptability, and heart. And to the families who share their time, holidays, and now dinner the consoles with our dispatchers, thank you. Your support makes this work possible.
