(WFRV) – While it may have been a shocker for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to make it to the second weekend of sturgeon spearing season, none of the spearers seemed to mind the extra days.
Day 8’s harvest total was low again, but many spearers still made it out onto the ice, mostly using smaller ATVs. Spearers harvested a total of 34 lake sturgeon, 15 adult females, two juvenile females and 17 males.

Two of the harvests on Saturday were over 100 pounds, pushing the season total to 52, the largest being a 70.4-inch, 113.8-pound F4 female sturgeon. 11 have been registered at the Downtown Oshkosh station.
The season total is now at 1,488 across all lake sturgeon. The DNR continues to warn people that no ice is 100% safe, and to click here for more information.
