MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – A 51-year-old Wisconsin woman has been charged in connection with a February crash that killed a 17-year-old student as he crossed the street.
Kathleen M. Borgwardt, of Madison, was booked into the Dane County Jail on Monday morning on a charge of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle.

The charge stems from a crash earlier this month that resulted in the death of 17-year-old Alexander S. Rosen.
According to investigators, a review of video evidence from a nearby business and witness statements determined that speed was a factor in the crash.
Authorities said cell phone use and impairment do not appear to be contributing factors at this time, although results from a legal blood draw are still pending.

Investigators also determined that pedestrian warning lights were activated and functioning while Rosen was crossing in the crosswalk.
If convicted, Borgwardt faces up to 10 years in prison, a $25,000 fine, or both.
