WAUPACA, Wis. (WFRV) – A new inmate communications system is set to be introduced soon at the Waupaca County Jail. How will it benefit inmates, and will it impact taxpayers?
The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office posted about the new system coming to the Waupaca County Jail on its Facebook page, saying it will be operational by Tuesday, February 17.
The new inmate communications system is being provided by NCIC Inmate Communications, which is based in Texas. The system will give inmates access to wall-mounted phones and secure handheld tablets.

Authorities say the devices are capable of “a large range of functions, including phone calls, video visitation, and a wide variety of educational and rehabilitative programming.”
The release also noted that the new communications system comes at no expense to taxpayers.
