MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – The Wisconsin State Fire Chiefs Association (WSFCA) is celebrating after the State Senate passed a bill that will help volunteer firefighters across Wisconsin.
According to a release, Assembly Bill 651 expands workers’ compensation coverage to include Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel.

“This legislation recognizes the very real mental health challenges our volunteers face in service to their communities,” the WSFCA said. “It’s a significant step toward ensuring those who respond to trauma receive the support and protection they deserve.”
The Wisconsin State Legislature website shows it was concurred along with multiple other Assembly Bills on February 12. The bill was introduced on November 13, 2025, by the Committee on Workforce Development, Labor and Integrated Employment.
State Senator André Jacque (R-New Franken) was added as a cosponsor of the bill on the same date it was introduced.
