MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) – Starting this week, school bus drivers for Lamers Bus Lines are being shown appreciation from both the community and their company for the role they play in students’ daily lives.
“They are the first ones the kids see in the morning — the first smile they see — and the last smile they see at the end of the day,” said Lamers Bus Lines hiring specialist Danielle Zimmerman. “They can really turn a kid’s day around. Giving them that feeling of safety every day, in and out, is so important. We need to be out in the community showing that we care, not just about the schools we serve, but the community as a whole.”

The recognition comes as Tony Evers has proclaimed this week Wisconsin Bus Drivers Appreciation Week.
For those behind the wheel each day, the acknowledgment hits close to home.
“It’s always fantastic to have someone recognize a group that does a really great job, especially bus drivers during a shortage,” Zimmerman said. “These drivers are here every day making sure kids get safely to and from school. Being recognized at one of the highest levels means a lot.”
The appreciation extends beyond the company, with community members offering cards, coupons and small tokens of thanks to drivers.
“The community helps support us by giving drivers coupons and other items,” Zimmerman said. “It’s a great time to celebrate them and all the hard work they do.”
The week serves as an opportunity to honor the drivers who go above and beyond to keep students safe.

“Sometimes bus drivers are a forgotten group,” Zimmerman said. “So whenever someone asks how they can show appreciation, it’s always a wonderful time. Parents especially are very thankful and tell drivers thank you day in and day out.”
Lamers Bus Lines plans to continue the celebration throughout the week with free food and activities for drivers, wrapping up with a pizza party on Friday.Oshkosh fire officials stress prevention after recent house fires
