Interim Shawano Fire Chief Chuck Felts told Local 5 that two people were home at the time of the fire.
“One person made it out, the other unfortunately did not,” Felts said.
The home sustained heavy damage from the fire, with siding melted off and charred rubble. Felts said that relief efforts aided firefighters amidst the flames and frigid temperatures, as numerous departments responded.
“Firefighters are cold after a certain period of time, [so] we rotate people and equipment also,” Felts said.
Crews from three departments remained on scene throughout the day as a joint-agency investigation continues.
