A criminal complaint alleges that around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Kenneth Nelson of Brillion intentionally killed a man, identified as the caller’s husband and Nelson’s father.

Kenneth Nelson
Nelson is charged with one count of First-Degree Intentional Homicide, which, if convicted, is a lifetime prison sentence in Wisconsin.
According to the complaint, Calumet County Deputy Jordan Fickel heard on dispatch just before 10:30 a.m. on January 21 that a 40-year-old man, Nelson, had killed the caller’s husband and that he was schizophrenic.
Dispatch advised Deputy Fickel that Nelson had no weapons and that he was outside at the time. Deputy Fickel reportedly found Nelson in the middle of the driveway at the residence in Brillion, with his right hand wrapped with duct tape.
Deputies searched Nelson, who told Deputy Fickel that somebody was inside and on top of him, and that ‘it was self-defense.’ The victim, later identified in the complaint as Nelson’s father, had no eyes in the sockets and his face was unrecognizable at the time he was found.
A witness told deputies that they had arrived home from grocery shopping when Nelson was outside and said he ‘killed him’ and the witness found their husband with severe injuries as they dialed 911.

According to the complaint, Nelson was asked if he knew his father was dead, stating that he had been dead since ’87, then adding “no, I had to do self-defense to live,’ when asked if he had killed his father.
According to court records, Nelson’s cash bond was set at $2 million on Thursday, with an order for a competency hearing on February 24 at 9 a.m.
