KEWAUNEE COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – A local leader in law enforcement announced via a Facebook post on Wednesday that he will officially end his career at the end of his current term.

Kewaunee County Sheriff Matt Joski has served for decades, and in a heartfelt letter to the community, he announced that he has decided to retire after completing his current term, which ends on January 5.
Sheriff Joski’s career in service began in 1989, but it wasn’t here in northeast Wisconsin; it was when he enlisted in the Marines, where he served for 11 years. He called the decision difficult in his letter.
“This has not been an easy decision to arrive at, and as always, I want to share some thoughts and considerations with you, the community that has supported me throughout the many years,” Joski said.
He won the Sheriff’s Office election in 2006, knowing that it would potentially be the only term he served, but it wasn’t, which he called surprising but an honor.

“I never imagined I would hold this office of trust for so many years, and it humbles me to this day,” Joski said in the letter.
Joski mentioned that he won’t endorse anybody at this time, and that he’s excited to ’embark’ on his next chapter, but that he’ll continue to do his best until his “successor raises their right hand and begins their service to this wonderful community.”
