GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Green Bay’s police and fire departments squared off in a friendly competition Monday to support the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign.
Police Chief Chris Davis and Fire Chief Matthew Knott each rang bells for an hour outside separate entrances at Festival Foods on West Mason Street, joined by McGruff the Crime Dog.
The event was a lighthearted contest to see which department could collect the most donations.

“It’s a friendly competition with our friends from the fire service. We give each other [a hard time] but we work together to serve the community, and this is just another opportunity for us to do something good,” said Davis.
Knott added, “The Salvation Army does so much for our community. This is our small part of helping them out and helping others.”
By the end of the hour, both departments had raised nearly $260. The police department emerged victorious, earning this year’s bragging rights.
