ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WFRV) – One of the most anticipated events toward the end of the calendar year is back for the 30th time, as the NEW Community Shelter hosted its annual Bowl-a-thon on Saturday.
Do Good Wisconsin’s Snow Angel Program links volunteers with neighbors in need
The event, held at Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley, invites community members to join for a fun afternoon of bowling to raise money to fight homelessness and hunger in northeast Wisconsin.
Last year’s event raised over $111,000, and the goal for the 2025 campaign was set at $100,000 as bowlers gathered at noon to knock down some pins to strike out hunger.
CEO Terri Refsguard calls the event one of the shelter’s most enjoyable traditions, adding that people have collected pledges and some local businesses sponsored teams to help the event. At least 40 lanes were taken up for the event.
“It’s probably our biggest event of the year, it doesn’t seem like it because it’s so fun,” Refsguard said. “Sometimes those events you do, you put so much work into it that you’re glad it’s over, but with this one, it’s fun to put together and fun on the day of.”
